Reduce Stress in Planning with Savory

Tis’ The Season for Rushing Around

Overwhelmed with Holiday Planning? Feel like you are constantly on-the-go and no time to prepare for everything? You are not alone. It amazes me that every single year, once fall hits it’s a big blur to me. My typical practice of laying out the week in my planner and writing my list of errands, things to do, shopping list all fall by the wayside.

The days start to fly by and it feels like my normal tasks like meal planning are the biggest challenge. It’s go, go go, get Abby to school, get to work, pick her up from school, get home… and then “Oh No!” Sometimes I will think about it at like 3pm and then try to pull something together.

Savory Is A Savior

My savior has been Savory! The Savory Magazine from Giant has so many amazing recipes that are seasonal and completely mindful of cost. What’s even better, it now comes in apps for iOS, google, and amazon tablet devices.

Sometimes the hardest part on figuring out recipes for our family is just getting inspired. With Savory at my fingertips on my iPad or even my iPhone it’s easy to find something that’s fun for everyone, the best part is you can download back issues as well. It is the perfect springboard for meal planning.

Home Chefs Rejoice

While thinking about next week’s meal plan, I opened the app on my phone and checked out the latest issue. While I know that Abby most likely will not try it, I was excited to see a recipe for Pumpkin & Sage Ravioli with Apples and Pecans.

Savory featured the quick directions in 5 simple and easy steps, a beautiful image of the dish, and references to check out the full recipe on the site. Once there I saw that this recipe really is simple, it’s only 15 minutes from start to table, with 10 minutes prep and 5 minutes cook! Which not only gives me confidence that I can tackle this dish and excitement for bringing everyone to the table.

Try it for yourself, this app is a timesaver for busy families looking to get meals on the table and for home cooks who are looking for new and exciting recipes. Knowing that a solution is easily at my fingertips so there is no reason to get overwhelmed is what gets me through!

What is your stress triggers around the holidays? What is your method of coping?

Loaded Potato Buffalo Chicken

Working full-time, raising a family, managing a home, and all of other life’s fun adventures means we are busier than ever.  We want to be able to gather around the table, we also don’t want to have the hassle of extra time that goes into making that home cooked meal. As much as we all love a little take out – we don’t want to be trapped with that as the go-to option.  We try to think of ways that we can do double duty or dual purpose meals.  Especially ones that are effortless and time friendly.

One of my favorite ways to create dual purpose meals is with rotisserie chicken.  It is one of those favorite staples that I know I can get 2 meals out of. Easy meals at that.  It’s also one of those items I can easily pick up either when I’m on the way home from work, or while running errands or grocery shopping.  Rotisserie chicken is one of those great shortcuts, are already fully cooked and super convenient to purchase.

This past weekend I was doing my normal grocery shopping at Walmart, and I was in the produce section and saw their rotisserie chickens when I walked in.  Right above the rotisserie chickens it says simple and easy $9.40 for a rotisserie chicken, 2lb side, and a 2 liter of Coca-Cola.  Which feeds our family of 3 for two nights in a row.  That’s a super affordable, more nutritious option to take out!

Another option that we love is their Marketside Pizza and 2 liter of Coca-Cola.  They have so many different topping options too.  Such as Ultimate Meat, Pepperoni, Supreme, and Cheese.  They are quick and easy, completely effortless and taste delicious.

Easy peasy, simple shopping, and I was ready to go.  I picked up my rotisserie chicken, potato salad, coleslaw, and a 2 liter of Coca-Cola for that night’s dinner, and picked up the rest I needed to make a quick casserole the next night.  In this case I needed some medium or new potatoes, shredded cheese, scallions, bacon bits, and some hot sauce.

As I was approaching the cash register to purchase everything, I noticed that there was an additional location for the rotisserie chicken. To make it even easier on us parents on-the-go, they even have them located in the main aisle where the cash registers are. That makes it super convenient to find in a rush and easy to create a meal quickly.

When it was dinner time it took me all of 5 minutes to get dinner on the table for us.  We enjoyed our chicken and sides.  Abby loves rotisserie chicken, and actually prefers it most days to chicken nuggets, which makes me super happy!

I saved all the breast meat for my recipe the next day – Loaded Potato Buffalo Chicken Bake!

Hammonton Food Truck Festival

Everyone knows how much I love Downtown Hammonton.  There are so many awesome local businesses, restaurants, and entertainment.  We love the community and some days it’s so quiet it seems like it’s one of the “best kept secrets”  There’s always the best little events going on like their Third Thursdays.  One event that we are beyond stoked about is the Hammonton Food Truck Festival THIS FRIDAY!  Match made in heaven right there.  Our favorite little town and our favorite  – FOOD! The festival will be from 5:30-9:30pm.

The line up looks pretty fantastic.  We have had experience with both The Surf & Turf Truck and Undrgrnd Donuts at Garden State Discovery Museum’s Groovin & Grubbin last year.  We are already huge fans of Russell’s Pic II as we go there all of the time.

Hubby can’t wait to try Mama’s Meatballs and Mobile Mardi Gras.  I cannot wait to try Tacos Al Cardon & The Original Soupman.  I’m sure Abby will love Shore Shake or The Ice Cream Experiment.

The other trucks that will be there are:

Everyday Mother’s Day Moments with Numi Organic Tea

It’s simple, really – RELAXATION.  We lead a pretty busy lifestyle.  Mother’s Day weekend is also the weekend that my husband and the guys in his family (dad, uncles, cousins, nephews, etc) all go on their annual Fishing Trip.  It’s just what they do, they’ve done it since he was a kiddo. So needless to say Mother’s Day weekend doesn’t really include any relaxing.

I try to gift myself a little bit of “me-time” as often as I can.  Which sadly, isn’t often enough.  One of the ways I take time out for myself, refocus, ground my thoughts, and give myself a bit of happiness is with tea breaks. I had a wonderful routine prior to having Abby and while pregnant. I need to get back into that routine.

Taking some time to enjoy some tea and meditate a bit really goes a long way.  A typical day with some me time for me is:

10:30/11am on a workday I start to feel a little sluggish.  So I take some time out and opt for a puerh. Pu·erh is a different type of tea – richer than black tea and wonderfully smooth and malty. Pu·erh provides a natural boost of sustained energy and delivers focus and clarity. Pu·erh is the oldest known variety of tea and is picked from 500 year-old trees before undergoing a special fermentation process. As things of value take time to mature, so it is with Pu·erh.

I really do get an actual quick energy boost while I enjoy a moment to reflect on what I have accomplished so far in the day, and then take a moment to see what is ahead for the rest of the day.  That time allows me to refocus on my tasks at hand.

Then around 2/3pm I hit the workday slump where I need something to keep me going for the rest of the day. I opted for a Basil Mint Pu-erh because I was looking for something to soothe my upset tummy. The mint does it for me and I love the flavors of this tea.  I added some local honey from Happy Bees Apiary to help soothe an irritated throat from my allergies, and I was set.

Then for my evening choice, I picked the Chocolate Mint Tea! It was absolutely delightful.  I love the Indulgent Collection because they are just that, decadent and indulgent.  I chose the Chocolate Mint because it’s an herbal tea so it had minimal caffeine which would allow me to rest and relax from the day helping me to unwind.

There are so many varieties of Numi Organic Tea to choose from.  They make a perfect treat for yourself or a gift to someone you love.  We also are huge fans that they are Fair Trade Certified. Which means that they are approved by Fair Trade USA which enables sustainable development and community empowerment!

Win Win with Gerber Graduates

Now through April 30th you have a chance to Win Win with Gerber Graduates.  See below for those details.

Gerber Wins

With Abby being a very “independent” toddler she has her own opinions.  She’s vocal about them.  I love that she is becoming her own little person, but some days I feel like all I am saying is “no” or trying to give her a better alternative.  Since Day 1 that is something I never had to worry about with Gerber, especially Gerber Graduates.

Any day that I don’t have to redirect her choices is a Win for us!  We try to embrace those little victories every day.  Just looking at a best friend’s son who will be 1 in a few short weeks I am reminded how fleeting these moments of their lives are.  The days are long and the years are short.
