There are a few things that I look for in gifts for kiddos, whether it’s a holiday, or it’s their birthday, or just a celebration! Abby being 16 months, and my nieces 3 & 4, and nephew 8, fundamental imaginative play is important to me. I love play that encourages kids to unplug and to use their minds and their hands. I also am a huge fan of activities that can involve the whole family and not just the little ones.
We recently received the Animal Action game from Mama May I, and I was super excited to get started with the kids after I picked them up from the sitters. Sometimes my niece has a little bit of left over energy, or has to work out some angst from the day, so this is a perfect way for her to do so a little more constructively rather than having a complete melt down.
Mama May I has the most adorable handmade products, and for a variety of ages. I love how her shop is categorized – Baby, Big Kid, Pre-School, Toddler, Toys for Every Play. One of the things I can say about “shopping” on her site, I get that feeling of “she just gets it” – because she truly gets what a Mom would want for her kiddos to learn and grow. Her products are authentic, wholesome, and absolute quality – But what I love more, she’s based in Philadelphia.
Founder and Principal designer, Jessica Perkins, has been creating for as long as she can remember, originally helping her mama with her handmade toy store over 20 years ago.
With the birth of her children, and all the new little people in her life, Jessica found herself searching for toys that met her educational and design standards. Inspired by these little explorers, and her understanding of Montessori and Waldorf methodologies, Jessica Perkins began making all of her creations with the belief that children make sense of their world through sensing their world. After years of making, creating, and gifting her creations to friends and family, Jessica decided to start selling her goodies.
Since the launch of Mama May i in 2009, Jessica’s passion for artistic expression through toys has blossomed into a business supported by mamas and papas all over the world. Mama May i’s handmade learning toys blend the best of developmental psychology and design to offer a unique learning through play experience.
